Ten Lessons To Overcome Your Struggles

In this video, US Navy Admiral McRaven gives us 10 lessons that he learnt from his time in basic Navy SEAL training, that can be applied in any situation, no matter your background, to help you overcome your struggles.

Lesson 1: Start the day with a task completed

Lesson 2: Find someone to help you through life

Lesson 3: Respect everyone

Lesson 4: Life is not always fair, move forward

Lesson 5: Don’t be afraid to fail often

Lesson 6: Take risks

Lesson 7: Face down the bullies

Lesson 8: Step up when times are toughest

Lesson 9: Lift up the downtrodden

Lesson 10: Never give up

“If you make your bed every morning, you will have accomplished the first task of the day. It will give you a small sense of pride and it will encourage you to do another task, and another, and another. And by the end of the day, that one task completed will have turned into many tasks completed”

Creating Positive Change

There are times in your life when you may feel stuck. You may be in a situation that is making you unhappy, but you’re lacking the motivation or extra push that you need to help you create the positive change that you’re looking for in your life. Sometimes you may not even be sure what it is that you want.

If you’re unclear as to what your goal is, you can take a look at each area of your life. These areas can include: Family, friends, health, career, finances, physical location, hobbies, spiritual, personal development, and your intimate relationships. You can begin by determining on a scale of one to ten (ten being happiest and most satisfied) how you feel about each area of your life. After you’ve determined which area has the lowest number, you can then start to think about what you can do to increase the number (and satisfaction) in that area. If the number is very low, just raising it by a few points can make a big difference to how you feel about your life and how it is going.

Once you’ve determined what your goal (or dream) is, you can begin to focus on it by determining what steps you need to take in order to get there. One thing to consider is that even though you may not be happy with your current situation, it was this situation that gave you the inspiration to identify and launch your goal or dream. It’s important to appreciate where you are in your life. This will help you to create a positive mental attitude. This attitude can help you move in the right direction more quickly.

It’s also a good idea for you to surround yourself with other people who have similar goals. This support system can give you more motivation, and can provide you with even more ideas which will help you to reach your goal. Commitment to your goal is very important. Most people fail to achieve their goals because they give up when things start getting tough or because they aren’t getting immediate results. Persistence is also a key trait that successful people have when going for their goals. Sometimes, all you need to achieve your dreams is to keep trying and not give up!

If you’re still struggling to identify or work on your goals, and you need some extra guidance or motivation, you can look for help from other people. If you don’t have a network of people that can help you, there are a number of professionals, such as a personal life coach, that can help you find out what you want in your life, and to help inspire you to reach your goals.  A hypnotherapist can provide positive visualisation and hypnosis, which can help people to reach their goal more quickly by using the power of the subconscious mind. Combining available techniques can really help someone create positive change in their life when they’re struggling to do it by themselves.
