4 Quick Stress Busters

How are you going through your day? How do you react when your plans fall through? Do you roll with the punches or do you let it get to you? Are you letting the everyday pressures keep you from enjoying life?

Here are 4 simple things that you can do to help keep your stress under control:

1. Sleep more

This might sound obvious, and everyone probably knows this, but in modern society, it’s not uncommon for people to be existing on less than 6 hours of sleep a night.

Experts recommend 6-8 hours of sleep every night. Not just to rest our bodies, but to rejuvenate our minds. Sleeping is the time for our body not just to rest, but also to heal itself. During sleep, your mind processes the events of your day. If you’re not getting sufficient sleep, your mind can’t fully process and store the information it’s taken in during the previous day.

A lack of sleep can also make people feel sluggish and short-tempered.

Make getting a good night’s sleep a habit, and you can make a big difference in your life.

2. Turn it off

The convenience that technology, particularly cell phones, tablets and laptops, have added to our lives can actually be a double-edged sword.

Whilst technology has brought great benefits and ease to areas of our lives, we are so dependent on them nowadays, that it seems that we can’t live without them. Our minds are constantly being distracted and filled with news, social media, emails, and other notifications, that it’s nearly impossible for our minds to settle and relax. Take time out from technology during the day, particularly if you’re using technology throughout the day, and do something that doesn’t require technology, for example, go for a walk outside, take a bath or read a book. To help you sleep better, stay off your phone, TV and laptop at least 30 minutes before going to bed.

3. Take a proper break

Taking a good break where you can get away from all the pressures you’re facing can help to bust the levels of stress you’re feeling. It doesn’t have to be a long holiday at a fancy resort (although there’s no harm in doing that if you can!), just a simple day out at the beach or an afternoon at the park will help you to reduce your stress levels. Just find somewhere you can be at peace and not think about the bills, work, or whatever tensions you may have at that time. It’s important to take time for yourself, so always make sure that you schedule the time and do it!

4. Do something you love

Sometimes we can be so busy doing things that we think we should be doing, such as work or doing chores, that we can often forget to take time out to do something that we love doing.

Remember to take time out during the day to do something that you love. It doesn’t have to be something big: take a quick walk in nature, listen to some music, play a musical instrument or do any other hobby that you may have. Doing something that you love can often be enough to help you release any stress you feel building up.

Schedule a time during your day where you can do something that you love, or do it whenever you’re feeling the stress beginning to build up and get too much.
