In this video, Dr Ivan Joseph provides a talk on the importance of self-confidence and how you can build yours.
Dr Joseph defines self-confidence as “the ability or the belief to believe in yourself, to accomplish any task, no matter the odds, no matter the difficulty, no matter the adversity”.
Dr Joseph believes that self-confidence is a skill that can be learned, and in this video he provides two things that you should work on and master to become skilful at becoming self-confident:
1. Repetition: The way to get good at
any skill is repetition, repetition, repetition, stay persistent and do not
accept failure.
2. Self-talk: Thoughts influence
actions, so we all need to stop our negative talk and get our own positive
self-affirmations. Getting away from people who will tear you down is also an
effective way of helping you to build your self-confidence.
Dr Joseph also notes that self-confident people have the ability to interpret feedback in the way that they choose to, and which is consistent with a positive view that they have for themselves and what they want in life.
If there is one thing to take away from his talk, Dr Joseph says that it is that “no one will believe in you unless you do”.
